Al Gross - Episode 88

Jeff was joined by Dr. Al Gross. Gross recently filed to challenge incumbent junior Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan (R - Alaska). They discuss his history in Alaska, including his dad serving as Attorney General under former Governor Jay Hammond, his background as a doctor, why he decided to run for U.S. Senate, healthcare policy in the United States, other issues facing Alaska, and his family. 

Doug Vincent-Lang - Episode 87

Jeff was joined by Department of Fish and Game Commissioner Doug Vincent-Lang. He was appointed Commissioner by newly elected Governor Mike Dunleavy (R - Alaska) last December. They discuss his educational background, his history with Fish and Game, the role of Fish and Game for managing wildlife in Alaska, the infamous "fish wars," the growing issue of bears in Anchorage, and how it's been being Commissioner.

They discuss Jeff's accidental Christmas party crash at Joe's house in December of 2016, his career in the oil business with ConocoPhillips, Conoco's recent exploration season, some of their ongoing and future projects, and their involvement in the community. They also discuss the current state of the oil business in Alaska, as well as how the future looks. 

John-Henry Heckendorn - Episode 85

Jeff was joined by John-Henry Heckendorn. He came to Alaska in 2012 to work on Andy Josephson's first campaign for State House. He later founded the political consulting firm Ship Creek Group. They discuss how he first came to Alaska, why he started Ship Creek Group, some of the candidates he worked with that ended up resigning from the Legislature, his time with former Governor Bill Walker, and his new job with Airbnb in San Francisco.

Binkey is the President of the Binkley family's tourism business, that include the Riverboat Discovery, a gold mining tour, and a partnership with a flight seeing company. He is also president of the Anchorage Daily News. They discuss his family's history in Fairbanks, how the Binkley family came to buy the ADN, and the ADN partnership with the Landmine to host Election Central. They discuss his time in Fairbanks with the Laborers, who they represent, their training and apprenticeship program, union and labor issues, the work outlook for the Laborers, and the Fairbanks economy.

Jeff was joined by legislative staffer Ken Alper. Alper previously served as the Director of the Tax Division for former Governor Bill Walker. Prior to that he worked as a legislative staffer. They discuss his history working in Juneau, Alaska's recent fiscal history, his background as an urban planner, the costs of living in Juneau during the summer, Juneau as the capital, oil taxes, as well as the Permanent Fund.

They discuss her District, her history in Alaska including some of her current colleagues she used to swim with, how she got into politics, the tourism industry in Juneau, her time as a teacher in Juneau, a recent story she told at Mudrooms, the current state of education in the United States, and a crazy story about a time she was assaulted in Russia.
